July is National Ice Cream Month. President Ronald Reagan designated July as national ice cream month in 1984 to recognize the popularity of ice cream in the United States. 90% of the nation's population consumes ice cream.
The International Ice Cream Association (IICA) encourages all retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day on the 3rd Sunday of July. The ice cream industry provides thousands of jobs and generates approximately 20 billion dollars annually in sales. The economic well-being of the nation's dairy industry relies heavily on the sales of ice cream; about 9% of all the milk produced by dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream.
