| How to I transition from previous Folio Software Versions to the 1.7 version? |
MarTech Systems, Inc. highly recommends that the below tips and suggestions be followed carefully to insure your transition from Folio version 1.6 to Folio version 1.7 can be completed successfully with little or no impact to your venue. MarTech Systems, Inc. highly recommends that you do not upgrade from version Folio 1.6 to Folio version 1.7. Rather, a Full New Install of Folio 1.7 should be completed. For the sake of clarity in the below documentation, the following will be assumptions in your current Folio and BDE configuration. Drive M: is mapped to \\server\folio Folio databases are stored in m:\data BDE Net-Dir is set to m:\locks 1) Prior to beginning the installation, complete the below steps in sequence: The desktop must have a default printer defined from the operating system. Any antivirus software should be disabled before installing the Folio software. It is not required, but MarTech Systems, Inc. suggests that the following software be installed. WinZip Adobe Acrobat Reader XP Service Pack 2 All Critical Microsoft Updates If your operating system supports “Offline File Synchronization”, it must be disabled prior to using Folio. If your venue requires the use of “Offline File Synchronization”, the “Offline File Synchronization” configuration must be configured to exclude any folder that the BDE Administrator is configured to use. Does a Folio desktop also have WordPerfect installed? If the answer is no, proceed to next step If the answer is yes If the version of WordPerfect is Office 11 or later there should be no problems. Proceed to next step. If the version of WordPerfect is Office 10 or earlier, there could be a problem. Earlier versions of WordPerfect do not follow industry standards for implementing BDE. Contact MarTech Systems, Inc. in this case. 2) The BDE Administrator must be configured on any desktop that is using Folio 1.x. Based upon assumptions above, the following must be changed: Database path must be m:\data Net-Dir path must be m:\locks Local Share must be set to True BDE Level must be set at 5 While you are touching each Folio 1.x desktops, also run the MarTech Locks program. Select all 3 boxes on the right Select Drives C:/M: Search and delete all files that are found. Note: Drive M: only needs to be done one time 3) If you be removing Folio 1.6 from a desktop before doing a full new install of Folio 1.7 complete the below steps in sequence: Start Folio 1.6. Click on Special-Preference Lists, select Defaults, and print. You might want to reset an individuals Folio default preferences when the new installation is completed. Save the logo files to a safe place. Your logos should currently be located in a Logos folder at the “Path for Temporary Files” found in Folio - Utility – Preferences – Field Defaults. Suggest you maintain a copy of your logos m:\logos Go to Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall any and all Folio and Folio Demo installations. Delete C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office and all sub folders if the directory exists. Delete C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office Management and all sub folders if the directory exists. Open the Registry Editor, and do a search for folio box, and delete all instances of this from the registry. Restart the desktop operating system. 4) The Folio 1.7 software will require your Folio 1.6 databases to be upgraded. Just to be safe, insure you do a backup of your current folio databases located at m:\data Copy your current Folio databases from m:\data to m:\testdata. This is where you will test the database upgrades properly, before upgrading your production Folio databases. 5) You are now ready to insert the Folio 1.7 media, and do a Full New Installation on a new computer. Just take defaults during the install. At the end of the installation: Take the default path of C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office\Data for the database folder. Take the default path of C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office\Locks for the locks folder. Create a new C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office\Temp\Logos folder and copy any required logo files from M:\logos to the new Logos folder. If you are using a ticket printer other than a Datamax brand printer Go to C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office\Ticket Formats and open the folder for your brand of printer and copy the ttix.dll from that location into C:\Program Files\Folio Box Office and overwrite the existing file. In Folio – Utility – Preferences re-enter all of the defaults that you printed out prior to the 1.7 install. In Folio - Utility – Ticket Printer - Select Ticket 1 and then select the appropriate ticket printer. Receipt Printer - Select Receipt and then select the appropriate receipt printer. (If applicable) 6) Before you start Folio 1.7 for the first time. Run the BDE Administrator on the Folio 1.7 install you just completed. Database path must be m:\testdata Net-Dir path must be m:\locks Local Share must be set to True BDE Level must be set at 5 7) Start Folio 1.7 for the 1st time You should receive an update button. Let it update. Your test databases are being restructured to support Folio 1.7. The update will probably work just fine. If it does, exit Folio 1.7 and start Folio 1.7 again to see if there are more updates. If there is an error during the update, create a Zip file of the m:\testdata folder and send it to MarTech Systems, Inc. We will locate and fix the problem. 8) After your Folio 1.7 database update If there was an error during the database upgrade, you will need to wait until MarTech Systems, Inc. resolves the problem. If the database upgrade was successful: Run the BDE Administrator on the Folio 1.7 install you just completed. Change the database path must to m:\data Start Folio 1.7 for the 2nd time You should receive an update button. Let it update. Your production databases will be restructured to support Folio 1.7. 9) At this point, you have one new workstation with Folio 1.7, and your databases have been restructured to Folio 1.7 requirements. All of your Folio desktops have had the BDE Administrator properly configured to support eFolio. Your Folio 1.6 desktops can work as normal. You can now use the above instructions to remove the old versions of Folio 1.6, and install the New Full install of Folio 1.7 as your time permits.
